ASACS celebrates 70th Independence Day
Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS) celebrated 70th Independence Day at the office premises on August 15, 2016. The tri-color flag was hoisted by In-Charge Joint Director (CST) Dr PD Barooah, in presence of all officials of ASACS. Hoisting of the tri-colour was followed by the national anthem. After hoisting the flag, Dr PD Barooah said, “Celebrating 70th Independence Day is a great moment for us as on this day we remember the sacrifices made by the great freedom fighters of the country and the state.

IPC Health Camp for Truckers & Migrants
Venue: BG Godown,Guwahati
Date: August 13,2016
An IPC (Inter-Personal Communication) Health Camp was organized for truckers and migrants at BG Godown, Noonmati Guwahati on August 13, 2016. The camp was organized by Assam State AIDS Control Society(ASACS) with the help from TI NGOs - Social Unity Keeper Association For All (SUKAFA) and Nalbari Bah-Bet Silpa Unnayan Samity (NZBBSUS). The camp began at 10 am where a team of doctors, nurses, pharmacist provided by the Office of the Joint Director, Health Services, Kamrup (M) were engaged. The ICTC Mobile Van was also deployed at the site. The health check-up camp offered- health check-up of the beneficiaries, HIV/AIDS counseling and testing and distribution of medicines. A total of 162 beneficiaries we were registered and a total of 64 nos of clients were tested for HIV/AIDS. None of them were tested positive. The camp concluded successfully at 4 pm.

International Youth Day-2016
Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS) observed International Youth Day- 2016 in association with Red Ribbon Club(RRC) of SB Deorah College, Guwahati on August 12, 2016 at the college auditorium. This years’ theme is – The Road to 2030-Eradicating poverty and achieving sustainable consumption and production. Welcoming the participants comprising mainly the students of the college, the Principal Dr Dharmendra Nath while emphasizing on the significance of the day, appealed to the student community to play a constructive role in creating a healthy society - free from all kinds of illicit activities.

Speaking on the occasion Project Director, ASACS Manvendra Pratap Singh, IA Ssaid, “ Youths mainly in the age group of 15 to 29 years are mainly vulnerable to HIV/AIDS. Thus, youths have a huge responsibility to fight this deadly menace,” adding, “Very soon you all will be in the service sector and then it is your responsibility to plan the future but not at the cost of destroying the environment.” He also praised the RRC for doing a yeomen’s service in spreading HIV/AIDS awareness.

Mount Everest climber David Henry Teron said, “ Strong determination is key to success. When I climbed Mount Everest after facing all kinds of adversities, I could understand the value of life. I felt proud that I could touch the highest point of earth at my prime age.” ASACS Joint Director (IEC) Bonti Saikia in her speech said that youth is the backbone of the society and the message of HIV/AIDS must be spread across all sections of the society. NSS Youth Officer, Nakul Deuri also spoke on the occasion. RRC Officer of SB Deorah College, Dr Niranjan Kalita offered the vote of thanks.
